SPFL Trust charity golf day 2025
Written By Peter Campbell
Our charity golf day, sponsored by Callaway Apparel, took place on Wednesday 14 May at The Carrick on Loch Lomond.
After breakfast and registration, our players were welcomed by our CEO Nicky Reid, who introduced the SPFL Trust, thanked business partners who had sponsored holes and given gifts and spoke about our mental health work throughout Scotland, which the golf day was in aid of.
The Carrick House club pro then talked the players through the course and how the day would progress.
The format for the day was Texas Scramble, where the teams of four played the ‘best shot’ of each player on the hole, getting a ‘best score’ average by the end of the 18 holes.
We were grateful to our main partner for the day Perry Ellis Europe, who kitted all our golfers out in Callaway apparel, before they took to the course surrounded by the glorious scenery of Loch Lomond.
Some notable players included John Hartson, Alex Rae, Frank McAvennie, Murdo Macleod, Lee Miller, James McArthur, Liam Fontaine and our golf day ambassador Shelley Kerr.
As well as the prize for the best team, there was also a ‘Beat the Pro’ challenge on the spectacular Par 3 14th hole, and Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin challenges sponsored by Arnold Clark.
The winner of Beat the Pro was Christopher Collins, winning a hospitality package to The Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club later this year, where they will get to watch Rory McIlroy, Bob MacIntyre and other top golfers compete.
Jack Simpson was nearest to the pin, and the longest drive was Joe King.
Top three teams
3rd – John Hartson, Frank McAvennie, Murdo Macleod and Lee Miller
2nd – Team Sodexo Live! featuring Joe King, Bruce Clow, Jack Simpson and Colin Dempsey
1st – Team Shepherd & Wedderburn LLP featuring Stuart Greenwood, Derek Petrie, Chris Colville & Robert Toole
There were also fantastic prizes, generously donated by some of our sponsors and partners, given away after our raffle prize draw, our red and yellow card quiz game and our guess the tees competition.

The theme of this week’s Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘community’, and we were pleased to spread the message of how important building community is for our mental health to all of our guests.
It was great to welcome everyone along in aid of our mental health work throughout Scotland.
