Mental Health Awareness Course Report 20-21
Written By SPFL Trust Media Centre
This World Suicide Prevention Day we’re proud to launch our Mental Health Awareness Course Season 2020-21 Report.
Five years ago we took the first steps on an important journey.
We had a vision: for the world of Scottish football to become a place where mental health is talked about and wellbeing is prioritised. We joined forces with Positive Mental Health Scotland and, thanks to generous funding from the Chris Mitchell Foundation, began delivering Mental Health Awareness training.
These courses are free of charge, and available to anyone working in Scottish Football.
In the 2020-21 season:
- We trained 157 participants
- From 104 0rganisations
- 100% told us they found the content engaging despite online delivery
Our CEO, Nicky Reid said: ”At the SPFL Trust health is a key pillar of our work, and we are absolutely clear that this is both physical and mental health. We know that football has the power to change lives, and we must act upon that.
”I am proud at what we have been able to achieve with the Mental Health Awareness Course, over the past five years. The 2020-21 season was not without it’s challenges. But, Covid restrictions did not stop this vital training taking place, and the course was adapted for online delivery and as soon as we could.
I am delighted that this has been a success, and participants have left feeling confident to have positive conversations around mental health.”
Since delivery began in 2016, we have reached almost 700 people with this training, including representative from all 42 SPFL clubs.
Delivery continues for the 2021-22 Season, taking a hybrid approach with both online and in person courses available.
