Football Fans In Training Programme
Written By spfltrust
We are currently recruiting for our award winning Football Fans In Training programme. In 2014, the SPFL Trust helped 374 supporters of 13 SPFL clubs shed an astonishing 291st 11lbs combined. This season, with over 26 clubs across Scotland taking part, we aim to help even more male fans to lose weight, live a healthier life and become more active – all while getting a behind the scenes view of your football club! So what are you waiting for? Book today by visiting the the Football fans in training page.
We believe there is no better way to promote the project other than have a previous FFIT participant speak about his experiences. In his own words, Glenn discusses his personal reasons for joining, how FFIT has helped him become more active and how he is now working to encourage others to sign up!
Glen’s case study
How did you hear about the programme and how did you enrol?
I heard about this way back, I had been looking for something to do to try and lose weight. Part of that research was looking on the internet – I knew they were running the programme at some English clubs. When I enquired, I found out they were about to start it up here in Scotland.
Please describe the changes you have seen as a result of the programme and how the programme has successfully helped you achieve your goals?
Well I have achieved my goals! I got myself to a healthy weight on the BMI scale. I am now off the medication because my blood pressure has reduced to a normal level which is a major thing for me! I have been doing this now for three years and I got to my healthy weight 18 months ago as I followed up from the FFIT 12 week programme and kept going.
My goals now are to maintain my fitness and improve on that. My weight is no longer an issue and nor will it ever be. I have even taken part in some body building – in fact, I am now a stone and half heavier but my waist size has reduced by 2 cm so I am going in the right way. I have gone from a size 3XL to an M in a football top size so this is a mark improvement for me.
Is there any advice you would give to others thinking of joining?
Give it a try! What have you got to lose – weight and non-fitness! The camaraderie really helps and you get to see behind the scenes of the football club which you support.
