Swindon Town Starts Football Fans In Training
Swindon Town FC will be the first English team to deliver the hugely successful Football Fans in Training programme!
Coaches from the Club recently completed training and will kick off delivery in January 2015.
Funded by Swindon Borough Council, the project will target men aged 35+ with a waist of 28 inches or more. Delivered at County Ground by Swindon Town FC Coaches, the programme will teach participants about a host of healthy lifestyle areas such as nutrition, health, portion control and food labels.
They will then take part in gently increasing physical activity whilst aiming to increase their daily step counts through the use of a free pedometer.
STFTiC Community Development Manager Jon Holloway said: “For us as a community Trust, we’re really excited about being involved in the Football Fans in Training programme because it broadens our horizons and enables us to work with an age group where we don’t offer a huge amount programmes.
FFIT has been running in Scotland for 4 years with medical research on the effectiveness of the programme published in The Lancet Medical Journal in 2014.
Swindon Town FC’s programme, starting in January 2015, will be the first FFIT programme to hit the English Leagues, expanding this exciting project south of the border for the very first time.
