Raith Rovers lift the SPFL Trust Trophy
Written By SPFL Trust Media Centre
Raith Rovers edged out Queen of the in the battle to win the first SPFL Trust Trophy.
The Kirkcaldy side started brightly and took the lead in the 16th minute through Matej Poplatnik. A great ball in from Reghan Tumilty was met by the Rovers number 99, who bulleted home his fifth goal in four games.
Queens equalised on the brink of half time after a series of chances (including hitting the woodwork four times!) ended with a stramash in the box and, eventually Ally Roy poked the ball home at the far post.
Both clubs run fantastic community campaigns, and half time saw the introduction of the Football Fans in Training challenge, and community football on the pitch.
It was excellent to showcase the fantastic work of both clubs community foundation in front of a cup final crowd and TV cameras.
The second half was just as lively as the first.
Raith Rovers scored their second of the game with thanks to another bullet header from Matej Poplatnik. Shortly after, a cool finish from Ethan Ross ensured the trophy was heading back to Stark’s Park.
Congratulations to Raith Rovers! We can’t wait to see what the SPFL Trust Trophy has in store for us next season.
