Festive Friends Launch at Hibernian FC
Written By SPFL Trust Media Centre
Yesterday, fifteen residents of a sheltered housing community were brought to Easter Road for a very special Christmas dinner.
The reason for this was Festive Friends; a project created by the SPFL Trust to engage socially isolated people at what can be the loneliest time of year.
Each participant received a Traditional Christmas dinner, with turkey and all the trimmings, live music for entertainment and some wonderful Christmas gifts.
Getting into the Christmas spirit, Hibernian Ladies’ midfielder Joelle Murray kindly helped serve the dinner and Hibs goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw handed out the presents.
Some of the guests were life-long Hibernian fans, but had never been to the stadium before! For another lady, it was her first time back at Easter Road in 19 years, since her husband sadly passed away, as they used to attend matches together.
It was a lovely afternoon for all involved, filled with good will and Christmas cheer.
All the Festive Friends events receive funding from the SPFL to put on their events. More clubs than ever are taking part this year, with 36 in total, four of which are opening on Christmas Day itself.
