The SPFL Trust were delighted to welcome Alfie Carson and Shay Docherty to Hampden Park to represent their favourite club at the 2019 Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers, last Sunday (8 December).
Shay, who is 9 and from Easterhouse, is an avid Celtic fan and has Glasgow Derby experience already with his first game being the 5-1 victory over Rangers in September 2016. Shay predicted a 3-1 Victory with Edouard scoring a brace with Christie contributing also.
Alfie, who is 8 and from Renfrew, is a massive Rangers fan whose first game was the Petrofac Cup Final victory over Peterhead FC where Rangers triumphed 5-0. Alfie predicted a 2-1 win for Rangers with his favourite player Alfredo Morelos scoring both goals.
Today’s Betfred Cup finalists are involved in a unique project across Glasgow that encourages primary school aged children to become more active. Celtic and Rangers have partnered with SPFL Trust and Ferrero UK to launch the Joy of Moving +Sport Move and Learn project, national school-based educational programme for children aged between 9-10.
By combining six weeks of practical sporting sessions with classroom sessions, the programme encourages physical activity, promotes nutritional education and builds awareness of the importance of a healthy diet and active lifestyle.
The Celtic FC Foundation and Rangers Charity Foundation deliver the programme across 65 schools, reaching 3,614 children annually with 9,180 hours of activity and education.
