We are delighted to announce the SPFL Trust Trophy will continue under its current guise for another season a one-year contract extension was agreed.
This follows a successful debut in the 2021-22 campaign for our partnership, which culminates with Sunday’s final between Raith Rovers and Queen of the South (Excelsior Stadium, 4.15pm).
We first lent our name to the lower league cup competition in 2020 with the support of donors amid the challenging Covid landscape.
That partnership will now continue into the forthcoming 2022-23 term as clubs and community trusts benefit from the agreement.
Backed by our charity’s benefactors, we will strive to continue to support SPFL clubs and their associated community trusts.
We will also use the trophy title partnership to activate a series of rights for community benefit, both via participating clubs and community trusts.
Further to this, we will continue to utilise some of the rights to highlight our flagship programmes such as Football Fans in Training, The Changing Room and CashBack Off the Bench. The partnership will also support Scotland’s national suicide prevention campaign, United To Prevent Suicide.
Additionally, we are set to reveal a new three-year strategy and the approach will be supported through the use of sponsorship rights.
Our CEO Nicky Reid said: “We are delighted to be able to reveal our continued partnership with the SPFL Trust Trophy.
“The first year of our involvement with the tournament has been successful for clubs and community trusts across the SPFL.
“We are relishing our first final as the SPFL Trust Trophy this weekend – this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our donors.
“We’ve seen some of our highest ever periods of engagement during the competition, and that is why this competition, and the very community-focused nature of it is so effective. We know the power of football.”
SPFL CEO Neil Doncaster said: “We are delighted to be extending the SPFL Trust’s sponsorship of the Challenge Cup into season 2022-23.
“The SPFL Trust Trophy has quickly become a fundamental feature of the Scottish footballing landscape. It not only provides a hard-fought competition, but is an important platform to showcase and promote so much fantastic community work done by associated community trusts and supporters all over the country.”
