Launching our new strategy: Football Powered
Written By SPFL Trust Media Centre
Here at the SPFL Trust we’ve launched our new strategy Football Powered, today (10 May 2022)
We’re going to focus on poverty, and its impact.
This is particularly important, with the news that you’re three times more likely to experience poverty if your home is within ten miles of an SPFL club stadium.
And with one in five people living in poverty, rising to almost one in four children, the situation is grave. Even more concerning is that the Scottish Government predicts that the rate will rise significantly by the end of the decade if there is not decisive action.
At the SPFL Trust we believe change can be Football Powered – and that we can do even more in the future
These are challenging issues; many are deeply systemic and require joined up thinking across multiple stakeholders.
We believe that football can play an important part in reducing the impact of poverty by inspiring and engaging people in communities across Scotland.
There’s little doubt that we need to learn more, though.
Part of our strategy focuses on how we can learn more, develop ideas, and test programmes that might create change; working with experts in their field That’s the outward focused part of what we’re planning.
We also want to make sure we really support our network of associated communities trusts and SPFL clubs (ATCs) so that they can respond well to the local challenges they face, helping to create places where people can thrive.
A new learning & development programme will be launched to help upskill and build knowledge and capacity, we’re focusing on building highly strategic partnerships, and we’ll campaign to show why we believe ATCs can be agents of ‘social change’.
SPFL grounds are shining lights in communities, charged with an energy that goes way beyond the ball, glorious goals, memorable wins and history-defining trophies.
We believe now is the time to harness that power and show that change is possible when it’s Football Powered.
