FFIT set for record-breaking start
Written By SPFL Trust Media Centre
Our Football Fans in Training programme is set to be one of the biggest on record, with upwards of 1,000 people set to take part at clubs across the country next month, alone!
Over the last two seasons the programme has suffered with lockdowns and limited access to stadiums, even when restrictions were eased.
Now we can reveal that more than 30 clubs are signed up to deliver the programme, including clubs from the SPFL, and other grassroots organisations, including Glasgow Girls and Women FC.
Football Fans in Training is one of our flagship programmes at the SPFL Trust.
Using the power of football, participants are supported to lose weight, be fitter, healthier and happier. The 13 week project includes classroom type sessions about what to do to embrace a healthier lifestyle, whilst participants take part in light physical exercise.
Not only do participants lose weight, but long term research conducted by Glasgow University shows that they keep it off, too.
Football Fans in Training is funded by the Scottish Government.
“We’re really delighted that FFIT is back with a bang,” said our operations manager Fiona Taylor.
“The message this year, after everything that has happened in the world, is that FFIT gives our participants the opportunity to Get Back – in the ground, and to better health.

“Some community trusts and clubs are returning to FFIT, and others are brand new – which is fantastic! We’re also expecting the split of men and women to be not far off 50-50.
“We know lots of people really want to get active again, and feel healthier after the enormous challenges of the last 20 months. It’s brilliant to see that FFIT, a programme with sustained long-term benefits, can play a part in this country’s recovery and renewal.”
