Livingston FC is a founding partner of the West Lothian Youth Foundation. This charity was set up to promote football to all ages and ability levels, for males and females. We provide coaching programmes, and engaging community initiatives throughout the year to meet the needs and demands of people in West Lothian.

Reminiscence Programme

This project will provide respite care for those looking after family members with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Participants will be involved in a number of sporting activities designed specifically around their abilities, which will also involve football related activities. Local High School children (5th and 6th year) will provide a “buddy” system to the participants. Local High School children will learn about both conditions through a learning pod and will also gain a sense of community and their relationship within it. Funded by SPFL Trust

Kno’ the Score Programme

The Kno’ the Score is a programme delivered to prisoners at Her Majesty’s Prison in Addiewell, interested in football coaching. The programme takes place for 12 weeks for 2 hours a time. Each session will consist of practical and theoretical work to assist the inmates to develop their coaching techniques, being able to focus on skills development.
The inmates will then be enrolled on a Coach Education Course delivered by an SFA Development Officer and participants will all receive the SFA Development Activities Certificate.

Football Fans in Training (FITT)

The foundation completed its first FITT course in June 2015 with a huge success, with the group losing 120 kg and take off 119.2cm of their waistlines.
Working in partnership with NHS Lothian, and with funding from the SPFL Trust. Our course differs slightly from the original programme, as ours is open to men over 18 years of age who had a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30+
The group has created a continuation group which allows the guys involved to carry on with their weight loss and allows them to support and engage with each other. The foundation continues to support the group by booking facilities and sending a coach along to lead the session for a small fee.
The next block of FITT is to be started in September 2015.

School/Nursery Coaching Initiatives

Our primary schools programme involves our coaches attending a number of local primary schools and nurseries delivering coaching classes focusing on improving basic core football skills and fun games. The sessions are delivered during curriculum time or during School Health Initiatives.

Fit4life is designed specifically to improve the lives of young people who have been identified as being homeless and/or suffering from mental health issues in West Lothian. This initiative allows us to deliver a holistic package of support for young people facing specific barriers when entering employment, education or training and generally moving on in life. The initiative will include activities that will increase confidence, self-esteem, health and well-being, as well as obtaining new skills and access to supported training and employment opportunities.

Football will be used to engage beneficiaries in relevant support services and to ultimately provide a robust pathway for these target groups to play a more active role in their communities by removing barriers that currently prevent them from entering training, employment and education. Funded by Investing in Ideas.
