Continued funding for CashBack Off the Bench
Written By Jake Gray
Our pioneering programme which helps young people to power their potential, will return from 2023-2026 thanks to continued funding from the Scottish Government.
CashBack Off the Bench gives young people aged 16-24 an opportunity to focus on their personal development with access to education, physical and mental health support. We’re one of 29 organisations who have received Phase 6 CashBack for Communities funding, which means we can continue delivery of the successful programme.
The programme will resume later this year and we are set to welcome two new ATCs to the programme with Morton in the Community and Spartans Community Football Academy joining St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation, Motherwell FC Community Trust and The Falkirk Foundation. The addition of Spartans allows us to extend the programme to the women’s game, following their introduction to the SPFL, and we are looking forward to supporting them throughout the next three years.
Our CEO Nicky Reid said: “It is very welcome news that we will receive phase 6 CashBack for Communities funding, as we continue to focus on the role football can play in improving lives.”
The programme has been transformational for previous participants, who have to gained new skills, grown in confidence and made important connections. Sessions take place at each of the participating clubs, delivered by their associated Community Trusts. Young people work towards their to SQA qualifications, and Scottish FA coaching badges, giving them the skills and qualifications to support their future ambitions.
Delivery is supported by a network of partners including: Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Show Racism the Red Card, Skills Development Scotland, SAMH and other local organisations.
Public agencies and third sector organisations are encouraged to refer young people to CashBack Off the Bench.
